To Year 6 parents
Dear Parents,
Current Affairs:
I am writing to make you aware that there have been a number of children in our class who have expressed concern surrounding Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
It is understandably a troubling news item and to support children with this, I have shared information from our current affairs provider, Picture News. I attach the presentation to my email should you wish to discuss this further with them.

Online Safety - Continued:
When last I wrote to you in Term 3, I shared my concerns about online safety with you. I was pleased to hear that this sparked the attention of many parents and carers and have held some positive conversations with children this term, hearing about how rules for using phones and social media at home have been changed. A great deal of thanks are owed to you all for this and long may this continue.
I link in for ease of reference my earlier guidance containing advice for setting boundaries for 'safe use' of social media and encourage you all to remain vigilant by making regular checks of your child's devices.
My final word on this is to announce a workshop which will be delivered later this term from Miss Tyler, Head of Safeguarding for Turner Trust. The workshop for Year 6 children will be followed by an after school talk for parents and carers. Here, you will be able to receive information and hands-on support for setting up parental controls to help keep our children safe online.
I will share the date for this with you as soon as possible.
Book Week
Next week, we are excited to be celebrating World Book Day within our school's Book Week.
I share with you the link to our school WBD page for your reference:

A number of resources to support Year 6 with their reading will be sent home with your child after school today.
I wish you all a safe and pleasant weekend.
Best Wishes

Dear parents/carers,
I am excited to announce that we are launching a new home reading initiative for reception and KS1 pupils called 'Reading Champions'. Children are expected to read for up to 20 minutes each evening and we ask that you support your child by listening to them and recording each reading session within their reading record.
Every Monday the children's books will be changed and their reading records will be looked at by a member of staff. Children who have completed 5 reading sessions within a calendar week will be given a reading champion sticker and their name will be placed into our prize draw.
At the end of the term, we will draw two reading champion names from every class and they will each be rewarded with a certificate and a prize.
If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to contact the school.
HAPPY READING!!!

18. Young Voices parents
Dear parents/carers,
Unfortunately, It is with great sadness that the Young Voices concert has been postponed, please see below the email received from the Young Voices team:
We understand that during the rising tension around the Omicron variant and the outlook for January that there are questions being raised regarding YV 2022.
As always, our priority here at Young Voices is the health, both physical and mental, of our children, teachers and the families who attend our concerts. It is therefore our decision to postpone all of our concerts to Spring/Summer 2022. We tried so hard to give this every opportunity to go ahead but we had to make this decision in the end and as a result we would also like to apologise for not being able to make the call any sooner.
We are currently working hard alongside our venues to make sure all of our original dates can be accommodated within this new timeframe and we will be in touch early next year with your new concert date. All ticket orders will be transferable and remain valid for these new dates and t-shirt orders will continue to be processed as usual.
Until then please enjoy your Christmas break and know that the Young Voices team will be doing everything behind the scenes to make sure your concert experience is worth all of the wait!
See you in 2022
Best wishes
The YV Team

16. KS1 parents
Dear parents and carers,
It is with great sadness and after much deliberation that we have had to make the decision to not perform the Nativity with an audience this week.
However, we will be filming the production and look forward to sharing this with you by the end of the week, so that you can watch this in the comfort of your own home!
All of the children and staff at Morehall will also be watching the recorded Nativity on Friday morning, so that we can all enjoy the performance and the hard work that has gone into it. Please do feel free to share this amongst your family and friends as well.
Please know that this wasn't an easy decision to make, but with the rising cases of Covid in our community and amongst families, our first priority is to keep everyone safe.

15. To Pupil Premium families
Dear parents and carers,
At Morehall we really do love our music and it has been wonderful to see (and hear!) the increase in the number of children able to take up solo or small group instrumental lessons.
However, we do understand that these come at a cost, which some families will not be able to afford. We do work hard to source the most cost effective music lessons, but we can now offer a bit more help:
Kent Music School run a "Financial Assistance Scheme", where eligible families can apply to get 75% of their child's music lessons paid for them. As an example - our current Rocksteady lessons are priced at £34.85 a month, with this scheme you would only pay £8 per month.
If you are interested in applying for this Financial Assistance scheme, then please reply to this email and Mrs Moris will be in contact shortly - we can offer Rocksteady lessons which take place in a group, or solo instrumental lessons on any instrument, just let us know what you would like your child to do.
Attached is an information sheet about this scheme, which lists the criteria you must meet to be eligible (one of them simply being those children eligible for Free School Meals in year 3 or above and Universal Credit).
If in any doubt, just come and speak to Mrs Moris, she will be happy to help and get your child learning an instrument!

14. To all parents
Dear parents/carers,
Morehall PTFA are hosting a Christmas Hamper Raffle!
Tickets will be on sale in the playground after school, from today until 14th December.
See the attached photographs for some of the fabulous prizes you could win, at a small cost of just £1 per strip!
The raffle will be drawn by the PTFA in the playground on Wednesday 15th December at 3.30pm.
Without your ongoing support in contributing to PTFA events, certain resources which help our children learn and have fun at school cannot necessarily be funded. Unfortunately, the school budget is not endless and therefore we rely on support from PTFA events to provide some of the enriching resources and experiences for our children.
We are extremely grateful for the support we do receive and look forward to the Christmas Raffle winners being announced next week!

To all parents
Dear Parents and Carers
The current catering contract with Nourish is coming to an end in 2022. Turner Schools will be going out to tender to secure a new catering provision across all of our schools.
We would like to gauge your and your child/children’s views on what you would like from the new catering service so that we can share these with prospective bidders.
We have therefore put together this short survey and would be grateful if you could spend 5 minutes of your time to complete it.
Thank you for your assistance.

To all parents
Dear parents/carers,
As you know, at Morehall we LOVE to read and promote reading on a daily basis in a range of ways. We are so proud of our lovely library and are pleased to welcome you all to visit each night after school. We are regularly asked by parents, carers, grandparents and friends of Morehall how they can support the school and we are now pleased to inform you that we have an Amazon wishlist, whereby class teachers and their pupils have chosen a range of books that they would like to have available in their classroom book corners or in the school library.
If you would like to support Morehall School by purchasing one of the books on our Amazon Wishlist, simply click on this link and select the book you would like to donate. This will arrive at school a few days later and can be added to the class or school library.
We thank you for your continued support and for helping to inspire our children with your kind donations.

To Year 4 parents
Dear parents/carers,
In June next year, children in Year 4 will take a Multiplication Tables Check - a new statutory requirement. The purpose of the check is to determine whether your child can fluently recall their times tables up to 12, which is essential for future success in mathematics. Please find attached guidance released by the Department of Education for parents, which explains a little more about what the check will involve.
The check will be carried out on-line, with the format relatively similar to the Times Table Rockstars arenas which the children are accustomed to playing. Parents/carers are not required to do anything in preparation for the check, however encouraging your child to complete their 20 minutes (or more!) home learning on Times Table Rockstars each week will be wonderful in supporting them with their multiplication and division fluency.
If you have any questions about the Multiplication Tables Check, please don't hesitate to come and speak to myself or Mrs Ayers.
Kind regards,
Miss Long
