Turner Morehall Coronavirus Update: FAQ for Parent & Carers

Coronavirus Update: FAQ for Parent & Carers

Is the school open?

In line with government guidance, we were given the go ahead to open on the 1st June. School provisions were previously in place to those children who have parents or carers who are in the publicised list of critical workers, or who are deemed vulnerable. Children in year groups, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 are now also able to attend.

If you are a critical worker and need to register your child for a place during this time, please contact our school office on 01303 275128. You will be required to complete a registration form and to show ID evidencing that you are a critical worker.

What measurements have been put in place, to ensure the safety of my child?

All children will be entering via the main school gate, with a one way system and 2m distance markings in place. In order to minimise the number of people coming to the school at any time, we are operating staggered start and finish times for each group of pupils. These are as follows:

Year R: 10.00am-2.00pm

Year 1: 9.30am-2.15pm

Year 6A: 9.00am-2.30pm

Year 6B: 9.15am-2.45pm

Key Workers A: 8.45am-3.15pm

Key Workers B: 8.45am-3.15pm

Vulnerable: 9.45am-3.00pm

New measures have been put in place, to ensure the school is as safe as possible. Children are only to be escorted by ONE parent/carer down the right hand slope from the main gate and pupils will que along the 2m markings whilst they wait to wash their hands in the outdoor sink, before entering the building.

Children will be placed in groups of no more than 12 pupils, which allows for a 2m distance between desks. Where possible, the one adult will stay with the same group for the entirety of the week. If anyone in that group shows any symptoms, we have access to testing and where positive, the whole group will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

Groups of children will be kept apart at break and lunchtimes and toilet facilities will also be monitored to ensure that there is no overcrowding. We ask that children bring their packed lunches in a paper or plastic bag that can be disposed of. We will only be catering for packed lunches, which will enable children to eat in their classroom.

We are minimising the use of shared resources to lower the risk of infection. Each child has been asked to bring in a named pencil case, pencil, rubber and ruler, which will remain in school. We will also not be allowing any visitors in the school for the foreseeable future, unless they play an essential role in keeping the school safe.

Finally, we have a thorough cleaning and hygiene regime in place and we have contracted external suppliers to carry out a risk assessment to ensure the buildings are safe for occupancy.

If I am bringing my child into school what will they be learning?

The school will have limited staff over the next few weeks and therefore are providing a childcare service to Critical families so they are able to go to work. The children who come into school will be doing activities and projects that are not part of the curriculum. Please send your child in their own clothes, not in their school uniform.

What can I do to help my child with learning while they are away from school?

Each school has arranged for children to receive both physical learning packs and have access to online learning materials. We will continue to update these throughout the closure period.

What is happening about exams in the summer term?

All exams and tests have been cancelled. There is limited information about this at this stage but we will endeavour to keep you updated as we receive further information.
