School Meals & Menus

Children are encouraged to eat the healthy balanced meal prepared in school so that they are best able to learn well, and have energy for play times. A menu is available so parents can see the range of food on offer. Specific dietary needs, for example vegetarianism or halal meat, are catered for.

Breakfast Club: Daily 08.00-08.30

All children are welcome to have a free breakfast at school*. See our breakfast club page for more details.

*Food is currently not on offer at our breakfast club, due to Covid-19 arrangements


The cost of a hot meal is £2.20 per day or £11.00 per week.

Children in the Early Years and KS 1, and those eligible for Free School Meals do not need to pay for their lunch.

All others can pay for their school meals with MyChildAtSchoolApp:

The government hopes that the provision of free school meals for all children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 will not only contribute towards children’s health, but also increase attainment.

Morehall Primary supports and encourages healthy eating amongst our children. If you do not wish to take-up the school’s delicious and healthy meals and prefer to bring a packed lunch for your child, we advise the following:

  • a cheese or ham sandwich, roll or wrap;

  • a piece of fruit;

  • cheese triangle;

  • yoghurt or yoghurt drink;

  • cereal bar or flap jack;

  • salad, pasta or rice salad;

  • fruit juice or water.

Every Thursday we consider our sugar intake and get Sugarwise!

There has been much information in the news lately about the rise of sugar in our diets. Globally an estimated 422 million adults were living with diabetes in 2014 compared to 108 million in 1980. An estimated 4.6 million of which are in the UK. If the trend of high sugar consumption is to continue, it will lead to more diabetes, more obesity, more tooth decay and other related illnesses.

We are constantly being told we must reduce our sugar intake and, more importantly, reduce our children’s sugar intake for the sake of their future health.

In partnership with our caterers, Nourish, we are working towards this, in conjunction with Sugarwise, an accreditation to recognise brands and products whose sugar content has been significantly reduced.

Nourish have reduced the sugar content in their Mr Nourish Biscuits by 25% and on our new Sugarwise Tuesdays, have produced a sugar free dessert option, as well as the Fruit Pots and Yoghurts. That’s just one dessert option a week. On the current menu cycle, we have the Cheesy Biscuit and a Strawberry & Banana Muffin.

A sugar free dessert will taste very different to a child who is used to the sugar in many other desserts. In order to reduce sugar in our diets, we will need to change our tastes.
